Being a tourist can be embarrasing

Updated: Oct 10, 2018

Right now I’m hiding behind the front bushes of our Lucca B&B. It’s 12am and I’m in my underwear with bare feet.  I’m trying to catch some local kids ding-dong ditching us.  I wouldn’t mind this prank much, but an elderly Italian couple is staying in the building with us and I already feel bad enough for the noise we are creating. It’s hard to cure the noise created by the excitement of being a young adult traveling the world. I’m sure our neighbors, despite their age, understand and remember that.  On the topic of being old though, I’ve never had to be on the receiving end of ding-ding ditching. We all know the best people to ding-ding ditch are the people who continue to run outside and search for you, and now I am that person, but it’s really hard to resist the urge to run out and try and catch them. I’m going to be an excellent target in my later years. No one wants to get beat at their own game. Despite this annoyance I will take it as another great cultural experience, getting pranked by a bunch of local Italian kids.

Update: In our each of our showers there is this strange lever like device hanging from the ceiling. You can pull down on the mysterious device but nothing seems to happen. Turns out though, if you turn off the water and listen, an alarm goes off in the hallway every time you pull the lever. When your in the shower, the splashing of water and two closed doors makes the sound too soft to hear.

Multiple people were showering last night, multiple people tested the lever.

We didn’t get ding dong ditched, we simply pranked ourselves.
